The first big field trip of the year took place today, to the Woodland Zoo. Thanks to the efforts of the 6th grade team led by Monica Beckman, the PTSA, and 85 parent volunteers, over 95% of the entire 6th grade class was able to attend. The large number of parent volunteers ensured small, workable groups of 4 or 5 students. Each group carried a clipboard, stopwatch for observations, maps, and tasks to accomplish. The students were able to accomplish the educational goals of the trip while having a great time. For many, it was their first trip to the zoo. We’re grateful to all those who made this trip, a model for inclusion, possible.
