Washington Middle School Counseling

Here are the dates and times: Wednesday, November 17th, from 3:30 to 5:30, and Thursday, November 18th, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. Don’t miss this chance to talk with all your student’s teachers. You can pick up her or his report card at the gym and then find the teacher(s) you want to talk with. While you will only have 5 minutes per teacher, you will get a good idea of how your student is doing. If you want a more in-depth conference after this conversation, we’ll help you arrange one. Your WMS PTPSA makes these conferences possible.

Now that first quarter is over and report cards have been mailed home, please mark your calendar for the WMS version of Parent-Teacher Conferences. Conference dates are: Wednesday, December 2, 2009 3:30-5:30 PM or Thursday, December 3, 2009 6-8 PM in the WMS gym.

In the WMS version, Parent/Guardians are invited to meet with their student’s teachers. No appointment is necessary, as all conferences happen at the same time. Teachers will be seated in the gym to talk to you about your child’s progress. Parents are seen on a first come, first served basis. Conferences are limited to 5-minutes per teacher. If additional time is needed, grade-level counselors will be available to arrange more comprehensive conferences at another date. Support staff from the wellness center, the tutoring center, and our ELL department will also be available for support or information. Though brief, both teachers and parents find the conferences extremely valuable. Thank you to the PTSA for their continued support of the WMS conference model.

The first quarter ended (auspiciously?) today. teachers will have until Wednesday the 12th to submit their grades. Report cards will be mailed out Friday, and parents should receive them before the parent-teachers conferences scheduled for Wednesday the 19th (3:00 to 5:00) and Thursday the 20th (5:30 to 7:30). These conferences are the only ones scheduled for the entire year, and they are possible thanks to the generosity of your PTSA. Even though sheer numbers limit each parent to about 5 minutes per teacher, we highly recommend you attend the conferences. You can meet all your student’s teachers (and vice versa), and get a picture of how they see your child. If you need more time for a particular subject, you can arrange a private meeting with the teacher later. All 3 grade-level counselors will also be present, and will be available to try to answer any questions you may have.
