We’ve already gotten some e-mails about the new school year, so it must be near, yes?! School staff report back on September 1, and the first student day is Wednesday, September 9. As we get dates and times, we will post information here for you.
In the meantime, if you’re wondering what your student should bring to school, you can start with a zippered 3-ring binder, a 70-page spiral bound notebook, notebook paper, a black and white composition notebook, dividers, pencils, an eraser, pens, a pencil pouch, a ruler, organizing folders (for homework, etc.), and a calculator. The school will hand out planners (calendars with entry spaces for class assignments, etc.) on the first day of school.
Help your students get organized before the first day of school. After shopping, sit down with them and go through their notebook with them. This is as much for the time you spend with them talking about the upcoming year, as it is about getting their notebook in order.
If you are new to Washington this year, 6th graders will have their own special schedule on the first day of school. We are also planning an orientation for new 7th and 8th graders. Again, stay tuned. We are still not officially available by e-mail and certainly not by phone (the building is getting a good cleaning). but we will try to get back to you as soon as we can.
Above all, make sure you enjoy the rest of this fine summer with your student. Spend time together doing fun activities, and enjoy each other’s company. See you soon!
